The audit for the certification C2C of Nesite raised floors, which will implement the sustainability standards of our calcium sulfate system according to the circular economy principles, took place recently. The Cradle to Cradle approach in fact, antagonistic to Cradle to Grave (or ‘disposable’), aims to create a production system respectful of life and future generations, promoting an industry based on 3 fundamental points:
– Waste = Nutrients: each product must become a resource for other production systems.
– Promote the use of renewable energy.
– Celebrate and respect natural, social and cultural diversity.
THE ADDED VALUE OF CRADLE TO CRADLE CERTIFICATION
Currently, in the building sector in which we operate, construction and demolition (C&D) generates 33.5 % of the total waste from economic activities in Europe. In this context, C2C certification introduces a paradigm shift in the sector, i.e. the regenerative design of buildings, capable of delivering positive development for people, the environment and the economy. Indeed, Cradle to Cradle certification integrates a circular economy approach that combines the industrial and social dimensions within an economic framework, offering a scheme for designing products whose materials flow into potentially infinite recovery cycles.
To obtain Cradle to Cradle certification, each product is evaluated according to five well-defined parameters:
1) HEALTHINESS – use of healthy raw materials.
2) LIFE CYCLE – product recovery and recycling at end-of-life.
3) ENERGY – use of renewable sources.
4) RESOURCES – protection of soil and water resources.
5) SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – implementation of fair, safe and equitable working practices.
It is interesting how important the human aspect is within an environmental certification, which thus becomes not only an international product certification, but also a process certification that includes every issue: production, quality and ethics.
The C2C certification process, the most ambitious standard in the design and manufacture of circular products, is part of the company’s sustainability project with the aim of providing solutions that preserve resources through recovery practices, minimising waste. Furthermore, with C2C certification, we are committed to implementing a continuous and measurable improvement path, extended to the entire supply chain and audited every three years, which will lead to an efficiency improvement in production processes, in order to preserve the quality of raw materials for future re-use.
The first C2C certification of Nesite raised floors will concern systems with calcium sulphate core without coverings.
